ISO 9001:2015 is being revised
The International Quality Management Standard ISO 9001:2015 is being reviewed once again after eight years. In July 2023, member states decided to this international standard in the field of quality management.
The revision process of ISO 9001:2015 began with the general acceptance of the limited revision proposal presented by the responsible committee, ISO TC 176/SC2. However, this revision aims to maintain the existing structure rather than introducing radical changes. It is considered that users are satisfied with the current standard and the continuity of demand is important.
During the revision process, factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain bottlenecks, new technologies, and sustainability are being taken into account. In this context, soft adjustments are proposed in areas such as flexibility, supply chain management, change management, sustainability, product quality, and delivery reliability.
Additionally, clarifications will be made in areas that were previously not sufficiently clear. Sections such as "Risks and Opportunities," "Organization Context," and "Change Planning" have been identified as areas where users have requested more clarification.
This revision also includes the adoption of the "High-Level Structure" to change rarely used terms and will provide greater consistency in the documented information area.
The next step in the revision process is to send the specification to all member states and collect feedback for comments and critiques. The working group will then meet, and the timeline for the ISO 9001 revision will be determined. Normally, such standardization projects take two to three years.
In conclusion, the ISO 9001:2015 revision is not a sign of significant changes to important standards in quality management but rather aims to improve the current standard. This means greater stability and alignment for the business world, while also enhancing the ability to adapt to environmental, technological, and supply chain challenges. It is exciting to look forward to future s!
