Accreditation is the process by which an organization is authorized to perform testing, analysis, examination, and certification procedures to demonstrate that a product or service meets market conditions, national or international standards, regulations, and legislation. Accreditation bodies must sign the MLA (Mutual Recognition Agreement) agreement prepared by IAF (International Accreditation Forum) to ensure that the services they provide are globally valid. If an accreditation body has not signed the MLA agreement, there might be occasional issues with international validity due to the lack of adherence to the multilateral mutual recognition principle. However, it would not be correct to say that this accreditation is invalid. This is because being a member of a regional accreditation organization (like APAC, EA, etc.), which has signed the MLA agreement, implies indirect recognition by IAF.
What is APAC?
APAC (Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation) is an accreditation commission that is a member of IAF and has signed the MLA (Mutual Recognition) agreement. You can see the APAC membership recognized by IAF by clicking here. Therefore, as EOS Certification, the certificates issued by us are made valid and recognized. The IAF accreditation forum cooperates with many accreditation commissions, such as EA (European Accreditation), AFRAC (African Accreditation Cooperation), IAAC (Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation), and ARAC (Arab Accreditation Cooperation).
What is IAF?
IAF (International Accreditation Forum) is a global association of organizations involved in the accreditation of management systems, products, services, personnel, and other similar conformity assessment programs. It works to reduce risks for businesses and customers by developing global conformity assessment programs. The primary purpose of IAF is to audit accreditation organizations that operate without conflict of interest. The secondary purpose is to create Multilateral Recognition Arrangements (MLAs) among accredited certification bodies, ensuring that accredited certificates are recognized anywhere in the world, thereby reducing risk for businesses and customers. MLA eliminates technical barriers to trade and contributes to global trade freedom. IAF works to find the most effective way for companies with accredited certification to have their certificates recognized wherever they are in the world.
What is the MLA Agreement?
MLA (Multilateral Recognition Agreement) is an agreement that ensures mutual recognition among accreditation bodies. All accreditation organizations and accreditation bodies that sign this agreement must automatically accept and consider valid the accreditations made by others. The goal of MLA is to cover all accreditation bodies in every country, thereby eliminating the need for product or service providers to get certified in every country they sell to.
